Born in Paris in 1977, Boueilh developed an early sensitivity to drawing and architecture under the influence of his father, an architect. After studying fine art in Paris, he devoted himself fully to painting. Growing up between a French father and an Italian mother, he spent his childhood summers in the landscapes of Tuscany, later settling in Naples where he continues his practice. Within everyday scenes, he identifies moments of form and structure—capturing the clarity of architectural lines and the subtle gradations of light, and translating them onto the canvas. Rather than exaggerating or transforming his subjects, his work remains close to rendering the encountered moment with precision.

The exhibition title 〈Luce nitida〉, meaning “clear light” or “light that reveals form” in Italian, points to a central condition in Boueilh’s work. Light does not merely illuminate the surface; it structures perception, defining edges, separating planes, and making form legible. This quality of light is deeply tied to the place where he works. The strong Mediterranean sunlight of Naples intensifies chromatic purity—bright colors become brighter, shadows deepen—and sharply delineates both objects and architectural lines. The title encapsulates this specific sensibility shaped by the light of Naples.

The exhibition focuses on works in which architectural elements are particularly pronounced. Rather than presenting the city as a whole, Boueilh selects and isolates fragments, observing them at close range. Subjects are often presented frontally, and architecture reads as a planar structure. Repeated elements such as windows, walls, and façades create rhythm within the composition, while the interplay of closed surfaces and open spaces constructs a sense of order. Details such as dark interiors or air-conditioning units remain, while figures and narrative elements are omitted. The subject is not defined by what it represents, but by how it is perceived through relationships of light, plane, and structure.

아르노 부에이는 나폴리를 기반으로 활동 중인 프랑스 태생의 회화작가이다. 그는 너른 풍광을 담고, 고전적인 회화의 형식으로 정물을 풀어내며, 자신을 둘러싼 풍경과 사물을 포착해 캔버스에 옮기는 작업을 지속해오고 있다. 갤러리헤아에서 열리는 이번 전시 〈Luce nitida〉는 한국에서 처음으로 진행되는 아르노 부에이의 개인전으로, 작가가 오랜 시간 관찰해온 도시의 풍경을 중심으로 구성된다.

1977년 파리에서 태어나 성장한 그는 건축가인 아버지의 영향으로 드로잉과 건축에 대한 감각을 익혔고, 파리에서 미술을 전공한 후 회화에 전념하게 되었다. 프랑스인 아버지와 이탈리아인 어머니 사이에서 자란 그는 어린 시절 토스카나의 풍경 속에서 여름을 보냈으며, 이후 나폴리에 정착해 작업을 이어가고 있다. 그는 일상 속에서 조형적인 순간을 발견하며, 통상적인 풍경 안에서도 건축의 명료한 선과 구조, 그리고 빛의 세밀한 단계를 포착해 화면에 옮긴다. 그의 작업은 대상을 과장하거나 변형하기보다, 마주한 순간을 또렷하게 드러내는 데에 가깝다.

전시의 제목인 〈Luce nitida〉는 이탈리아어로 ‘또렷한 빛’, 혹은 ‘형태를 드러내는 빛’을 의미한다. 빛은 아르노 부에이의 작업을 설명하는 핵심 요소로, 화면을 밝히는 역할을 넘어 형태를 인식하게 만드는 조건으로 작용한다. 이러한 빛의 성격은 작가가 머무르는 장소와도 깊이 연결되어 있다. 나폴리의 강한 직사광은 색의 순도를 높이고, 밝은 색은 더욱 밝게, 어두운 색은 더욱 깊게 대비시키며 사물의 형태와 건축의 선을 명확하게 드러낸다. 이는 지중해 특유의 환경에서 비롯된 시각적 조건이라고도 할 수 있다. 〈Luce nitida〉라는 제목은 이러한 나폴리의 빛과 그 안에서 형성된 작업의 감각을 함축한다.

이번 전시는 건축적 요소가 두드러지는 작업들을 중심으로 구성하였다. 작업은 도시를 전체로 보여주기보다는 일부를 선택하고 가까이에서 응시하는 방식으로 이루어진다. 대상은 정면에 가깝게 제시되며, 건축은 하나의 평면 구조로서 읽힌다. 창과 벽, 파사드와 같은 반복적 요소들은 화면 안에서 리듬을 형성하고, 닫힌 면과 열린 공간이 교차하며 구조를 만들어낸다. 창 내부의 어둠이나 실외기와 같은 디테일은 그대로 남겨지지만 인물이나 서사 요소는 배제된다. 대상은 무엇인지로 설명되기보다, 빛과 면, 구조의 관계 속에서 인식된다.

또한 면은 빛과 그림자의 대비를 통해 나뉜다. 나폴리의 강한 직사광 아래에서 밝은 면과 어두운 면은 명확하게 분리되고, 색은 하나의 덩어리로 존재한다. 이때 화면은 강한 대비를 가지면서도 전체적으로 밝고 안정된 색조를 유지한다. 이로 인해 화면은 간결해지면서도 더 높은 밀도를 갖게 된다. 대상의 일부는 집요하게 남기고, 나머지는 과감하게 덜어내는 작가의 태도는 그가 대상을 어떻게 바라보는지를 드러낸다.

아르노 부에이는 도시를 설명하거나 서사로 풀어내지 않는다. 대신 시선이 머문 구조를 택하고, 그것을 빛으로 분명하게 드러낸다. 관객은 이 전시를 통해 하나의 장소를 목격하는 것이 아니라, 그 장소를 바라보는 밀도를 경험하게 될 것이다. 빛이 머무는 선명한 구조 안에서 풍경은 비로소 인식이 된다. 그의 작업은 빛을 통해 구조를 읽는 머무르는 시선에 대한 기록이다.
